After the Storm

Two Thoughts for Tuesday

Two Different Perspectives

Remember a couple of weeks ago, I did a post about a hail storm that passed through Olathe,  Kansas.  The hail storm pretty much shredded the roofs of nearly every home in this town of 125,000+ people.

During the subsequent month, our town has turned into a mecca for "all that is connected to roofing and painting".  Trucks with "roofing logos" circle the neighborhoods much like vultures circling their dead prey.  Door bells are ringing nonstop with construction workers, roofers, and painters  wanting to know if the homeowners need  bids for  repairs.

My street is just one of many that has taken on the appearance of a  construction zone or ...maybe an advertising venue for construction companies. The other morning I was taking my daily walk and decided to snap some pictures.  This  collage represents just one portion of one street of one neighborhood. (my neighborhood, to be exact).  It seems odd to see all the dumpsters, trucks, ladders, pallets of shingles, and rolls of tar paper that fill the driveways and streets of our usually quiet neighborhood.

How do I feel about this?  I feel fine, actually.    This is just a minor inconvenience. A costly inconvenience but still minor in the grand scheme of things.  So over the course of the next month or so I will tolerate  the  minor little nuisances such as the process of having to deal with insurance companies and such ...oh and the noise...pound, pound, pounding noise....this isn't so bad.

It could have been a lot worse.

Compared to this I have nothing to complain about.

Truly, I am counting my blessings that I have some home repairs to make and a roof to replace.  My sympathy goes out to all the people that have lost so much.

Thought this song had a certain tie in factor for today. Carrie is singing about a storm that knocked her to the floor.

The Good for the Day.... That there are so many kind and generous people reaching out to help those that have lost so much.

The Bad for the Day.... That there has been so much weather related damage this year.

Today's Weird for the Day has absolutely no connection to anything dealing with today's subject.  I just think it is weird.
The Weird for the Day.....  A Florida women wrecked her car while she was trying to shave her bikini area while driving.  I guess the ladies that are putting on makeup while driving aren't looking so bad now are they???

Cheryl - you put it all in perspective, for sure. So sad how much so many people have lost. You can easily recover from property damage, but loss of life is irreplaceable. So sad.
You're very fortunate that it's roof and other non-life-threatening damage.
And oh my word! Driving and shaving? Oh, but read the article and it gets better. Much better. Either this woman is on too much medication, or she needs to be on much more medication. Yikes!

This has been a Spring with so many sad stories relating to weather patterns.

Funny line about the medications. Ya, when I got to the part about the suspended license, the DUI and no insurance, it struck me that this women has ZERO common sense. So of course she would try to shave her hoohah (as the article said) while driving. CRAZY

It is really sad to see so many loose so much. I don't know how they do this over and over again. My heart goes out to them and I am keeping them in my prayers.

I saw that newspaper article and laughed so hard at what she was doing. Can you imagine?

Here's your click ...........

Love and Blessings,

Hear, hear! or is Here, Here! In any case, cheers! You are so right that it could have been so much worse. A shredded roof is nothing in comparison to any number of other situations.

My first worry was that this was going to turn into a story about those non-contractors that come in, no license, no clue, steal money, don't do work or do such a crappy job that their work makes the original problem so much worse. Glad to see this wasn't one of those posts! Whew!

As for the weird for the day...*bangs laptop over head*

Just when the cops think they've heard it all.... *shakes head*

hey Jewell, be careful about banging that laptop!!! That whole scummy faction that starts showing up in towns for cashing in on the aftermath is just the way of the world anymore. At this point, if someone isn't smart enough to do their homework and not be in such a hurry to hand over cash before a job is even done, it's kind of hard to feel sorry for them. I do make exceptions for the elderly.

Hi AngelBaby, I posted a comment reply to you and it went missing...so I am trying again. Thanks for the click...
No, I can't imagine that level of multi-tasking while driving. I can't manage to talk on a cell phone and drive. (be thankful all of my fellow drivers that are near me on the road) I wonder what the urgency of that particular grooming was that it couldn't wait until she was home.

Hi Cheryl,

That was one heck of a storm, so many lives lost, just horrible. This spring has really been bad for storms, I hope it is finished so everyone can move on to repairs and normal life again. I hope all is well for those in the flood zone too.

As for the wierd of the day... That's just wrong!

Happy Tuesday, clicks!

Being in construction I know that a weather disaster can make life hapier for us. Nt that we enjoy "praying on the misfortune of other," it's just the just and our check book are happier for it.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE your weird for this week. That woman deserved to crash her car! What a silly this to do while driving!

Hi Wolfe, This surely has been a year for bad weather. I guess it isn't over yet, either. The flooding is still on the rise along the Mississippi. Really a shame for people that are losing their home. Sad.
The shaving lady,,,what a nut job.

Hi Trina, I thought of you when I put the collage together. This is a construction companies paradise here right now. I don't begrudge these companies the business as building trade has been in such a slump for the last couple of years perhaps this will get some people back to work. That would be a wonderful thing.

I agree that the shaving lady got what was coming to her. Really crazy thing to do.

Have a safe trip!!!

Hi, Cheryl. Perspective is absolutely critical to a happy life,, that's for sure. You seem to have it.

Hoohah. And I thought at sixty-six I'd heard them all.

Hi Bud, The one thing we can count on is that some nut (car shaving or otherwise) will do something moronic for us to poke fun at.

People are funny!!
