The battle rages on.
Yesterday thanks to the abysmally low temperatures and the sleet/snow mix that found it's way to hold me hostage, I spent the day doing looking at various screens. Really, the only way I could of accomplished LESS over the weekend would be to have been in a coma. BUT...given the fact, hubby is working in San Antonio these days, I am trying my best not to need medical attention. I am fairly sure an ambulance would look and my ice covered driveway and say "if someones going to die, better her than us trying to drive up there to save her."
My one reprieve for the weekend was watching the Oscars.
Yes, despite the part of me that is conflicted between the shallow narcissistic side of Hollywood and the creative, artistic side of making good films, I invariably tune into the Academy Award show every year.
This year I started early in the day watching the pre-red carpet preparations. You just have to know when a person is desperate enough to watch people preparing a carpet for other people to walk on...that is a sign of complete disconnect.
Still...I figured I would as in years past... I would digitally impose myself and Crabby Pants into the festivities.
Digitally traveling is just so much easier than actual travel.
So without delay...here are this years Oscar pictures.
Did you watch the Oscars this year? Did you have favorite movies that won or didn't win?
I will be back with my regular post tomorrow...unless I go into the aforementioned coma.

Am I bad to say that it doesn't interest me in the slightest? I don't care who wears what, or who. I did just hear, on the news, that a chap from Yorkshire got an Oscar for Gravity though, so it's nice to hear that.
Way to horn in on the action! Well done. And gee, who doesn't like a bit of shallow narcissism once in a while? Does the body and soul good. At least that's what I tell myself.
No that's not a bad thing at all, babs. If I weren't so house bound thanks to the horrible weather here, I wouldn't probably be watching it either. I have lost interest in most of what is happening in Hollywood. There seems to be a real disconnect to the rest of us non-celebrity types. I did enjoy seeing all the pretty dresses last night but that was about it. I saw several of the movies and for the most part "meh".
I thought everyone seemed pretty well behaved last night. I had lost some of my enthusiasm the last few years because of big egos and bad behavior coming out of Hollywood. BUT as you said in one of your posts, I have been watching the Oscars since I was a little girl so it's a bit of a tradition.
Last night I felt like the show was back on track. There were some really nice humble acceptance speeches and I thought Ellen did a great job hosting it.
I missed the Oscars, so I'm glad to catch up here. I'm also glad you made it into the famous twitter picture, twice even. Good job, Crabby. And it does amount to "who" vs. "what" they're wearing.
Be well, Cheryl.

So much of the 5 or 6 hours of programming is about how people look which normally annoys me but as I have to say, as award shows go, every one was on good behavior....and there were plenty of pretty dresses. Sadly no one had on anything ridiculous. (at least that I saw) The year Bjork wore the swan dress, I put it on Crabby Pants. Of course, I can't find the original but it looked something like this. It's always way more fun when someone shows up looking odd.
So, have you ever hosted an Oscar party? Although I confess I have never attend , I had a friend who did this EVERY year, even dressing up, and putting out a red carpet for all her guests. They had to also vote, and as each happened on TV she pulled them and counted to see if her crowd had got it right. Lots of cheering if they did ,but regardless, champagne,(the inexpensive stuff) followed freely with tantalizing appetizers. Now, aren't you sorry you couldn't virtually enter her party as well? You had the glamourous dress to attend it! Gosh, someone needs to make that inexpensive tele-portation machine. Hum...seems you have some time on your hands... Cheryl :0 Just be careful so you don't need that ambulance~
I am not one for watching award shows, years ago I was but the last few years not so much
I did watch the Oscars and it was an entertaining program. I think Ellen did a good job although she seemed to peter out a bit towards the end.
Oh, I think you know my rapt attention paid to this year's academy awards. I was hoping you would assert yourself into the picture of Dame Judi Dench's exposer of her Quato boob. (In no way does any of that make sense to anyone, including me, who wrote both the post that references, nor the comment referencing that post.)
I feel for you in this winter fuckery! I mean, it's March already. I don't watch TV, but I swear I am going to start next year because then I will be able to silence everyone who asks if I watched the Oscars, instead of being asked, "Really? You don't watch TV?" by people who are always asking me if I watch TV.
There was a time "back in the good ole days" that I would have had people over to watch the Oscars but offering them chip and dip probably didn't constitute a party. Back then I looked forward to the program and was quite invested with who would win. My attitude today is more "yawn ...fast forward...fast forward.
I do appreciate the enthusiasm of your friend though. Anything can be more interesting given some imagination. We use to have movie theme nights. Example: We once hosted a Fried Green Tomatoes" night with a southern themed meal. Guess what might of been on the menu?
Today, I should be able to leave the house...although another round of snow is due in tonight. However, I chipped all the ice off the drive so the ambulance can come if needed.
I still usually catch the Oscars but I, also have lost my enthusiasm for award shows. They seem full of rather self-indulgent people that don't need additional rewards to validate them.... given the fact they are made into celebrities and given loads of money.
I agree. I tend to have backed off watching most of the awards shows but the Oscars are my last hold out. I thought Ellen did a fine job...but like you...I thought toward the end some of it was falling flat. I wasn't sure if maybe it was me losing focus. After 3.5 hours my mind went for a walk.
Hahaha..yes...I read your post and realized that perhaps you weren't paying close attention to the whole 3+++ hours of programming. Not that I blame you. My attention span at best is only good for about 45 minutes.
I had a lot of ideas where to impose Crabby Pants but you and a few others might of been the only ones to laugh. There are so many lines to cross and not enough courage to cross them.
For example: I was going to send along a picture of you delivering Elsa Pataky's baby at the Oscars. (since you weren't paying attention you might want to Google that.) but instead I am sending you this one.
Winter fuckery, for sure. Got my driveway clear for the ambu-lance and another snow/sleet mix is suppose to come through here tonight. **sigh**
This is why some people get things done and others don't. I would be better off NOT to watch TV but alas...I am weak.
As for the people that find it incredulous that you don't waste time with TV...I haven't invented my super-word yet but when I do you can be sure to say
"[insert super-word here] you!"
As grumpy and old-mannish as this sounds, the two of us have talked about this many times before, and the general consensus is that we're uninterested because it's just a gathering of all of the biggest A-list actors patting each other on the back for a job well done.
Oscars are cool and all, but I don't think they really enrich anyone's career. Leonardo DiCaprio's never won one, and even if he never does he'll still be remembered as one of the greatest actors of his particular generation.
Meanwhile, there are some Best Actor/Actress winners from as little as 10 years ago that people might see now and ask, "Who's that?"
Plus, it just saddens me when I watch a commercial and it says something like "STARRING OSCAR WINNER ROBERT DENIRO" and then it's Robert DeNiro in his underwear hamming it up with Sylvester Stallone in some awful box office bomb.
Cringe.
Didn't watch; don't care. There's very little standing between me and a coma except Bejeweled Blitz and few blogs. Please keep writing or you'll be responsible for MY coma. Loved your appearances at the Oscars. Now I wish I had watched.
No, no...I never take your comments as sounding like a grumpy old man. (especially as they usually mimic mine and god knows, I would hate to become a grumpy old man...gender confusion doesn't sound fun)
This being house bound is starting to become a serious problem when I start watching the red carpet nonsense. There were 3 different programs on the front side of the Oscars to ask inane questions and discuss "who" was wearing "who"...seriously just shoot me and put me out of my misery.
For the most part, I have quit watching award shows as I think there is a huge disconnect between the reality of Hollywood and the real reality. (the Oscars might be the only one left that I sort of, kind of watch. The shallowness and narcissism is hard to bear. The one redeeming feature to watching award shows today is the invention of the DVR.
I only saw a handful of the movies that were up for awards. That is another problem for me. So often in the past I didn't like the movie after paying for a ticket, buying concessions, etc..that now I wait for a lot of them to come to ON DEMAND. I am always behind in watching the current movies.
I am on the bandwagon for NOT watching award shows. The Oscars have been really one of the few that I have even made an effort to watch. It's a good thing that the weather had me trapped or I might of not bothered. As it turned out it was fairly entertaining. Still..all the talk about how people look and such, I find annoying.
Gosh, I would never want to be responsible for you slipping into a coma. Crabby Pants will have to keep party crashing (albeit digitally) into places that she is not wanted. (BTW..games like Bejeweled should come with warning labels stating how addictive they are.)
I didn't know you went to the Oscars and we actually got it fairly live this year here in Aus as we normally don't get it.
Love the pics as always, you and Ellen, who'd of thought it!
It's fairly easy to get into the thick of any event digitally. If I tried that in person, I'd be spending some time in a jail cell in Hollywood. Of course, I might actually meet some celebrities there...at least before their lawyers came to bail their sorry butts out of the clink.
